Bosch 1276DVS – Product Review
The Bosch 1276DVS is a 12.5-amp, 4 by 24 inch, variable speed belt sander that comes with its own cloth dust bag. It has a 1150-1550 SFPM power for professional applications. Its rugged design is built specifically for professional production sanding jobs, but can also be easily used by average users. It has a magnesium transmission housing that reduce the overall weight of the power tool. It also has an adjustable front handle that folds away when used in close work. And with its exclusive adjustable belt tensioning, users are allowed to slip their own non-woven belts that can be up to 8-mm thick.
The Bosch 1276DVS offers reliable and solid performance with a few extra features making it an easy-to-use sander that is serious for removing materials. With this sander model, it looks like Bosch designers took into consideration the customer feedbacks and developed a front handle that adjusts to the feel of the user. Deep detents mean secured usage because the handle snaps securely into place. This gives the tool a burly feel and stability no matter what position the user is working. And combined with nice balance and weight, it also minimizes fatigue and stress on the user. Like many of the sanders in the market, the motor is aligned with the belt edge to make flush sanding possible. However, just like the other Bosch belt sanders, visibility is a bit limited once the sander gets into corners.
More advantage of the Bosch 1276DVS includes the belt-changing system that works well because user no longer have to suffer any spring pinches. Also, the belt tracking adjustment tracks the new belt quickly and keeps it in place.
Belt sanders are all about removing materials in a hurry. The larger the area of sandpaper in contact with material, the faster material is removed. And that is exactly what this sander model offers. Also, to achieve a perfect finish, it’s important that the sander sand flat. The platen on the Bosch 1276DVS is a cork-and-steel type, which is good for solid performance setup. Plus, it also offers an optional graphite platen–a great high-performance extra. Aside from these platens, there are also a few other accessories available for the Bosch 1276DVS. It includes the sanding stand, which holds the tool in an inverted position for fine finish applications and the machined-aluminum sanding frame that keeps the sander up off material, reducing pressure on the belt and making smooth finishes easier. These accessories just made the Bosch 1276DVS an even finer power sander than what is expected of it.
However, one problem this power sander have is that the handle often experience heat build-up, resulting to repetitive failures during some tasks. With just 5 minutes of continuous usage, the handle-trigger already becomes hot which may cause meltdown in some of the parts inside. It may perform well and powerful, but it looks like because of its power, it becomes hard to handle because of the heat it gains.
But all in all, the Bosch 1276DVS is a powerful sander that is built both for the professionals and the average DIY enthusiasts. A power sander built with the user’s comfort in mind.
